Saraswati Mandir (Narmad House)

Saraswati Mandir, also known as Narmad House or Sarika Sadan, is a writer's house museum dedicated to Narmadshankar Dave (1833–1886), better known as Narmad — one of the most important figures in 19th-century Gujarati literature. Narmad was a poet, essayist, and social reformer who championed the Gujarati language and culture during the early colonial period, and is credited with coining the rallying slogan "Jai Jay Garavi Gujarat" (Hail the Glorious Gujarat).

The house museum is a converted historic bungalow that contains the poet's personal effects, manuscripts, letters, and books. It is primarily of interest to those engaged with Gujarati literature and cultural history, but the building itself and the story of Narmad's reformist activities — he was a fierce critic of social conservatism and advocated for widow remarriage and women's education — are worth knowing about as context for the city's cultural identity.
