Tapi Riverfront

The Tapi River runs through the northern part of Surat before emptying into the Gulf of Khambhat, and the riverfront area has been significantly developed in recent years as a public promenade and park. The Dumas Road and Hazira shoreline developments have added gardens, walking paths, and viewing areas along the water's edge.

The riverfront is most pleasant in the early morning and evening, when it draws locals for exercise and relaxation. The old fort sits on the river's south bank and is visible from the promenade. Boat rides on the Tapi are available from several ghats and provide a different perspective on the city's historic waterfront — the point where ocean-going ships once unloaded silks, spices, and precious stones for onward distribution across the Mughal empire.
