Kurukshetra is 150 km north of Delhi on National Highway 44, the main trunk road running up to Amritsar. The most convenient approach from Delhi is by train: the Shatabdi Express covers the distance in about two hours, and several other services make the journey throughout the day. Kurukshetra Junction is the main station, centrally located and a short auto-rickshaw ride from the tanks. From Chandigarh the train takes around one hour; Ambala is the nearest major junction with onward connections across northern India.
By road, the drive from Delhi takes around two and a half to three hours in reasonable traffic. Buses from Delhi's ISBT Kashmere Gate and from Chandigarh's ISBT serve Kurukshetra frequently. Haryana Roadways and private operators both run services on this route.
