Things to Do

Kurukshetra is one of Hinduism's supreme pilgrimage centres — a city oriented almost entirely around devotional life. Over 360 temples and 860 sacred sites are distributed across the district, each connected to an episode from the Mahabharata or the Bhagavad Gita. The two great sacred tanks, Brahma Sarovar and Sannihit Sarovar, anchor the town, and the best way to experience the place is on foot between them, visiting the cluster of temples along the ghats. The flat agricultural landscape itself is considered sacred ground — this is Dharmakshetra, the Land of Dharma. Jyotisar, five kilometres west of town, marks the spot where Krishna delivered the Gita and is the one site no visitor should miss.
