Day Trips

Manali sits at the head of the Kullu Valley, and the easiest day trips run south down the Beas River. Kullu, about 40 km away, is the valley's old market and temple town, surrounded by apple orchards and worth timing around its famous autumn Dussehra festival. Halfway there, the medieval hill village of Naggar repays a slow morning: a stone-and-timber castle, the Roerich house and gallery, and the finely carved Gauri Shankar Temple give a stronger sense of older Kullu architecture than anything in central Manali.

Closer to town, the high passes and side valleys make their own outings. Solang Valley and Rohtang Pass draw the crowds for snow and views, while the Naggar–Jana road leads to quieter waterfalls and village lanes. Most of these can be done as half- or full-day trips by shared taxi or bus, leaving you back in Manali by evening.
