Manali town itself is compact enough to walk, though the steep lanes between the main bazaar, Old Manali, and Vashisht can be tiring in the heat. Auto-rickshaws and taxis cover these routes and are plentiful near the main bus stand.
For day trips to Rohtang Pass, Solang Valley, or Vashisht, shared taxis and jeeps gather at the bus stand from early morning. Rohtang Pass trips require booking the night before in peak season because the daily vehicle quota fills fast. Hiring a taxi for a full day (around ₹2,500–₹4,000 depending on destination and season) gives the most flexibility for touring the surrounding valleys. Motorcycles and scooters can be hired in the market for independent exploration; Royal Enfield motorcycles are the standard choice for the Leh–Manali Highway.
