Tara Devi Temple sits on a ridge outside Shimla, high enough to make the journey feel like part of the pilgrimage. The temple is dedicated to the goddess Tara, but many visitors also come for the forested approach and the broad views across the surrounding hills.
It is a good counterpoint to the Mall and colonial Shimla. Go early if you want quieter air, and consider combining it with nearby viewpoints or a slow drive through the cedar and pine country that makes the old hill station more than its central promenade.
