Drass is not a destination where you idle away days. Most visitors pass through on the Srinagar–Leh highway and spend a few hours. The town's two genuine draws are the Kargil War Memorial — one of the most affecting military monuments in India — and the stark, high-altitude valley itself, which rewards anyone who stops to look at it properly. The frozen river walk in winter is an experience few places on earth can match, and the Dras River gorge is worth a short detour in the warmer months.
