Patnitop sits on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH44), about 110 km from Jammu. You can reach it by state bus or private car from Jammu in around three hours, or from Katra (the base for Vaishno Devi) in about two hours. The nearest railway station is Udhampur, about 60 km away.
