When to Go

Patnitop has two distinct seasons. Summer (April to October) is when most visitors come — the plateau is green, temperatures are pleasant (15–25°C in the day), and trekking routes are open. May and June see the biggest crowds as families from Jammu escape the heat of the plains. September and October are quieter and often clearer.

Winter (November to March) brings snow, usually from December onwards. The ski area operates when snowfall is sufficient. The road from Jammu can close during heavy snow, so check conditions before travelling. The plateau in fresh snow is beautiful and very quiet outside weekends.

Avoid the monsoon months of July and August for trekking — trails can be slippery and views are often obscured, though the annual Sudh Mahadev Fair (July–August) is worth timing a visit around if you want to see the pilgrimage at its peak.
