Patnitop has a small ski area that operates when the plateau receives sufficient snow, typically December through February. The slopes are gentle and short by alpine standards — this is beginner territory rather than a serious ski destination — but the setting in the pine forests is attractive and the area draws visitors from Jammu who may never have skied before. Equipment can be rented on site.
The ski area is operated by the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation. Snow depth is variable from year to year; before making a special trip in winter it is worth checking whether the slopes are actually open. The road up from Jammu can close during heavy snowfall.
