Sudh Mahadev is the most important Shiva pilgrimage site in the Udhampur district, set in a forested valley about 25 km from Patnitop. The temple complex sits beside a natural spring and is said to date back thousands of years. The main shrine houses a naturally occurring Shiva lingam alongside a trident attributed to the god — an unusual combination that draws pilgrims from across Jammu throughout the year.
The approach from the main road passes through thick deodar forest and the site itself is quiet and shaded, cooler than the open plateau at Patnitop. The annual Sudh Mahadev Fair, held over three days at Shravan Purnima (typically July–August), draws large crowds and includes traditional music and folk performances. Outside festival time, the temple is uncrowded and easy to visit as a half-day trip from Patnitop.
