Srinagar is a predominantly Muslim city with limited nightlife in the conventional sense. Alcohol is available but not prominently displayed — hotel bars at the larger places like Hotel Broadway (Maulana Azad Road), Hotel Centaur Lake View (Chashma Shahi), and Hotel Grand InterContinental (Gupkar Road) serve beer and spirits in comfortable settings with lake or valley views. Hotel Lake Isle on Nagin Lake has a particularly pleasant bar setting.
The café culture is more active. Coffee Arabica (Maulana Azad Road) is a popular meeting point with good coffee and a relaxed atmosphere frequented by the city's young professional crowd. Café Coffee Day has a branch near Dalgate. The most pleasant option on a warm evening is sitting at the lakefront along Boulevard Road with a cup of kahwa — the local saffron-laced green tea — watching the shikaras drift in at dusk.
