Nehru Park

Nehru Park is a small garden on a natural island in Dal Lake, connected to Boulevard Road by a causeway at the Dalgate end of the lake. It is a straightforward public garden — lawns, flower beds, a fountain, a small café — but its lakeside position gives it a pleasant light and the views across the water toward the Zabarwan Hills are good. The park is used by local families in the evenings and is considerably quieter than the houseboat ghats a few hundred metres away.

The location at the Dalgate end of the lake also makes it the most useful spot to watch the shikara traffic in relative peace. From the café or the waterside, you can see houseboats, fishing boats, vegetable boats, and tourist shikaras all using the same stretch of water in different ways. For visitors who want to sit by the lake without being constantly approached by shikara operators, Nehru Park is the practical alternative to the main Boulevard Road ghats. The small entry fee keeps it from becoming crowded.
