VV Puram Food Street — known locally as Thindi Beedi, or "eating lane" — is Bangalore's most famous street food strip, running through the Basavanagudi neighbourhood and coming alive every evening from around 5pm. Dozens of stalls stretch down the street selling churumuri (puffed rice with vegetables and spice), pani puri, masala dosas, chaats, and the local speciality kadlekai puri — puffed rice with freshly boiled groundnuts in a spiced gravy that is one of the most distinctly Bangalorean things you can eat.
The street is busy, unpretentious, and cheap. There is nothing fancy about it — plastic stools, paper plates, fluorescent lighting — but the quality at the better stalls is genuinely high and the atmosphere on a weekday evening is one of the most enjoyable in the city. Come hungry, arrive by 6pm before the best stalls get too busy, and work your way down the street rather than committing to a single stall.
