Rosario Cathedral is one of Mangalore’s important Catholic landmarks, standing near the old port area where the city’s maritime and missionary histories overlap. The present church was rebuilt in a Roman basilica style, with a dome and restrained interior that distinguish it from the region’s older temple architecture.
It is best visited as part of a loop through Bunder, old churches, and the city’s coastal neighbourhoods. The cathedral is active, so avoid service times if you want to look around quietly. Its value is partly architectural and partly historical: a reminder of Mangalore’s long Christian community on the Konkan coast.
