Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls

Aruvikkuzhi ("Rubber Tree Ravine") is a small waterfall about 16 km east of Kottayam town, set in a narrow canyon surrounded by rubber plantations and dense riparian vegetation. The falls themselves are modest — not dramatic by Kerala standards — but the setting is peaceful and the walk down to the base of the falls through the plantation is pleasant. A small church built into the rock face beside the falls adds an unexpected note.

The falls are accessible by road and make a straightforward half-day excursion from Kottayam. They are most impressive during and just after the monsoon season (June–September), when the water volume is high; in the dry season (January–April) the flow can be thin. Auto-rickshaws from Kottayam can negotiate the trip for a reasonable price, or you can take a local bus toward Erattupetta and ask the driver to let you off at the turn-off.
