Thazhathangady Juma Masjid is one of Kottayam's finest historic buildings, a mosque whose timberwork and proportions belong unmistakably to Kerala. Its carved wood, tiled roof, and riverside setting make it very different from the domed mosque image many visitors carry in their heads.
The mosque is a working religious place, so access and behaviour matter. Even from outside, it is worth the trip to Thazhathangady for the architecture and for the old trading-neighbourhood atmosphere along the Meenachil River.
