October to March is the best time to visit Khajuraho. Temperatures are comfortable, the air is clear, and the sandstone temples glow beautifully in the low winter sun. The Khajuraho Dance Festival in February or early March is an excellent reason to time a visit precisely.
April to June is brutally hot — temperatures regularly exceed 45°C and the temples radiate heat well into the evening. July to September brings the monsoon, with afternoon thunderstorms and high humidity. The temples are still visitable and the surrounding countryside turns green, but access roads can flood occasionally and some accommodation closes.
November and December tend to be slightly busier with domestic tourism. January and February see more international visitors and festival crowds. Come midweek if you want the western group garden to yourself in the early morning.
