Gadkalika Temple is a shrine to the goddess Kalika just outside central Ujjain. Tradition links it with the poet Kalidasa, who is said to have gained his literary gifts through devotion to the goddess.
The temple has old roots, with renovations associated with Emperor Harshavardhan and the Paramara period, though much of what you see today is later rebuilding. It is a worthwhile stop for travellers following Ujjain's temple circuit beyond Mahakaleshwar.
