Getting There

Ujjain is well connected by rail to most major Indian cities. The main station, Ujjain Junction, is on the Western Railway's Ratlam-Nagda line and has direct trains from Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Bhopal. From Indore, about 55 km away, trains take around one hour; the highway connection is fast and buses run frequently.

The nearest airport is at Indore (Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport), with daily flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Bhopal, and several other cities. A taxi from Indore airport to Ujjain takes roughly 90 minutes.

Within Madhya Pradesh, Ujjain is easily combined with Indore, Omkareshwar, and Maheshwar on a circuit of the holy places of the Narmada and Kshipra valleys.
