Harsiddhi is one of Ujjain's most important Shakti shrines — a temple to the goddess Annapurna (also identified with Chandika and Ambika) that is counted among the 51 Shakti Pithas of Hindu tradition. According to the mythology, the elbow of the goddess Sati fell here when her body was dismembered by Vishnu's chakra.
The temple's most distinctive feature is two pillars covered in oil lamps that are lit on the night of the new moon, creating a dramatic spectacle. The inner sanctum contains an ancient idol dressed in deep red — the colour associated with Shakti — and the air inside is heavy with incense and marigold.
The temple stands near the Rudrasagar tank, a short walk from Mahakaleshwar. It attracts both the devout and those curious about the Shakta tradition that runs parallel to Shaiva worship in Ujjain. Women pilgrims are particularly numerous here.
