The main bazaar running through the commercial heart of Jalgaon is one of the more animated market streets in northern Maharashtra. Jalgaon district produces roughly two-thirds of the state's banana crop, and the agricultural wealth of Khandesh is evident in the volume of trade here — grain merchants, textile shops, and produce sellers all operating side by side in the old trading quarter.
If you have time before your train, wander the lanes east of the railway station toward the older part of town. The morning hours are most active, when wholesale buyers and farmers move through before the midday heat. Jalgaon also has a notable gold market; the city has historically been an important centre for gold trading in Maharashtra, and the goldsmiths' street is worth a look.
