October to February is the best time to visit. Winters are mild and dry, ideal for spending hours on your feet at the Ajanta site. Avoid the monsoon (June–September) when heat and humidity make cave exploration uncomfortable, though the gorge at Ajanta becomes dramatically green.
The district holds several large fairs that draw pilgrims from across Maharashtra. The Shri Rama Ratotsava fair in Jalgaon town falls during the Hindu month of Kartik (October–November), overlapping with the Navaratri–Mahalaxmi fair in the same period. The Mukatabai fair at Muktainagar and the Changdeo fair near Edlabad are other major gatherings in the district calendar.
