Things to Do

Jalgaon's own sights are modest; the caves in the surrounding region are the real draw. The Ajanta Caves — a UNESCO World Heritage Site 60 km to the northeast — are the reason most travellers stop here at all. Within town, the Omkareshwar Temple in the city centre is worth a quick visit, and Shirsoli Lake, 6 km out on the Pachora road, makes a pleasant early-morning stop for birdwatchers. The Jalgaon Bazaar — particularly the gold market and the agricultural trading lanes east of the railway station — reflects the town's character as a prosperous Khandesh market centre.

The Gandhi Research Foundation on the edge of town is a serious institution with a museum and library open to visitors — a surprising resource for a city of this size. If you have transport, Muktainagar to the west is a significant pilgrimage town for the Warkari tradition, while Yaval Wildlife Sanctuary in the hills to the north offers leopard and birdwatching in dry deciduous forest.
