Jehangir Art Gallery

Jehangir Art Gallery is Mumbai's most established public exhibition space for contemporary Indian art, a four-gallery complex opened in 1952 adjacent to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (Prince of Wales Museum). The ground-floor gallery is the main exhibition space and hosts high-profile solo and group shows; three smaller galleries run simultaneously with emerging artists. The adjacent Samovar Café, a Mumbai institution, is an excellent place for coffee and light meals.

The gallery has served as a launching pad for many of India's most important artists over seven decades. It is free to enter and open daily. The gallery district around MG Road south of the museum — including the NGMA next door — makes this a natural focus for a half-day exploring Mumbai's art scene.
