The Asiatic Library occupies Mumbai's old Town Hall, a neoclassical landmark in the Fort area with a broad flight of steps and a Doric portico. Inside is one of the city's great scholarly collections, with rare books, manuscripts, coins, maps, and archival material.
Even if you only see the building from outside, it is one of Fort's most impressive colonial-era facades. Visitors with an interest in Mumbai's intellectual history should check current access before going.
