Flora Fountain is one of the set pieces of Mumbai's Fort district, an ornamental 19th-century fountain dedicated to the Roman goddess Flora. It was installed after the old Bombay Fort walls came down, replacing the gate that once led toward the church.
The fountain now sits at Hutatma Chowk, surrounded by Victorian-era buildings and a memorial to those who died in the movement that created Maharashtra. It is a quick stop, but a good one for understanding the layered public history of South Mumbai.
