Juhu Aerodrome and Heritage

Juhu Aerodrome was India's first airport, established in 1928 when pilots of the Bombay Flying Club began operations on a cleared beach. The small airstrip is still active as a general aviation, helicopter, and small-plane facility, visible from the beach and surrounding streets. The Airports Authority of India maintains it alongside the far larger Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport at Sahar.

The aerodrome's heritage is commemorated with plaques and the Juhu Heritage Wing, which documents the history of Indian civil aviation from its origins in Juhu. The vintage aircraft and photographs in the small museum make it of particular interest to aviation enthusiasts. The facility is not generally open to public visits without prior arrangement, but the aviation heritage of the site is visible from the perimeter fence along the beach road.
