Peddar Road and Cumballa Hill form the approach to Malabar Hill from the south, a stretch of upscale residential and commercial development that includes some of Mumbai's most expensive real estate. The area has several excellent restaurants and delis catering to the well-off residential population — Indigo Deli, multiple French patisseries, and upscale provision stores serving the expat and affluent Indian communities.
The area is walkable from both Haji Ali and the Hanging Gardens, making it a natural food stop on a day exploring western South Mumbai. The broad, tree-lined streets retain something of old Bombay's colonial residential character alongside the modern towers. Breach Candy Club, the exclusive swimming and social club nearby, has been a landmark of South Bombay's social life for over a century.
