When to Go

The best time to visit Ukhrul is October to May. October and November bring clear skies and cool temperatures after the monsoon. December and January are the coldest months — temperatures can drop to near freezing at night and the higher peaks see frost.

The Shirui Lily Festival in May is the most rewarding time to visit if you want to see the lily in bloom on Shirui peak. The festival runs for three to five days and includes traditional Tangkhul dances, music, and a lively market. Book accommodation well ahead during festival week.

Avoid June to September. The monsoon brings heavy rain, frequently making the road from Imphal difficult and sometimes impassable, and Shirui peak is often cloud-covered.
