Bars and Cafes

Bargarh does not have a bar culture in any recognisable sense. There are licensed wine shops (the Indian term for a state-regulated liquor outlet) on the edge of town, but no pubs, no cocktail bars, and no rooftop terraces. The town's social life revolves around chai: small stalls throughout the market and near the bus stand serve glasses of milky, spiced tea from early morning to late evening, and these are the places where locals sit, read newspapers, and talk. A glass costs a few rupees.

South Indian-style coffee is available at a handful of shops near the market — filter coffee, served in a small stainless steel cup-and-saucer set — though tea is far more common. If you are looking for somewhere to sit down and recover from a long bus journey, a chai stall near the bus stand is your best option.
