At 244 metres, Khandadhar is the highest waterfall in Odisha. The name means "sharp as a sword" in Odia, and the single cascade plunging down a cliff face in the Keonjhar hills makes the reason obvious. The waterfall is at its most impressive during and just after the monsoon (July to October), when the volume of water turns it into a thundering spectacle. In the dry season it thins to a trickle. It is about 104 km from Rourkela and makes a good day trip, though the last stretch of road is rough.
