Vedavyas

Sacred river confluence where Vyasa is said to have written the Mahabharata

Vedavyas sits at the sacred confluence of the rivers Sankha, Koel, and Saraswati, where they merge to form the Brahmani. According to tradition, the sage Vyasadeva composed the Mahabharata here. The site holds nine temples, the oldest being the Balunkeshwara temple, plus a Vedic ashram and a gurukul school. The Shivaratri festival draws large crowds over a fortnight. It is 15 km from Rourkela and 5 km from Panposh, connected by regular bus service.
