When to Go

The best time to visit Chittorgarh is between October and March, when temperatures are comfortable for exploring the large fort plateau on foot. The fort covers a vast area with little shade, and visiting in summer (April–June) means contending with temperatures that regularly exceed 40°C. The monsoon (July–September) brings relief from the heat and turns the surrounding countryside intensely green, but some paths within the fort become muddy.

November and February are particularly good months — cool enough for walking, dry, and with good light for photography. The Mewar Festival in March celebrates the traditions of the region with processions and cultural performances; it is centred on Udaipur but Chittorgarh is included in the events.
