Deo Somnath Temple

About 24 km east of Dungarpur, on the banks of the Som river, the Deo Somnath temple is a tall, slender 12th-century Shiva shrine built in the Mahā-Gurjara style. The tower rises three storeys in carved pale stone and has survived largely intact despite being far from any modern town.

The temple is rarely visited, which is part of its appeal — an isolated medieval shrine in open countryside, often empty save for a priest or two. A taxi from Dungarpur takes about forty minutes.
