Gaib Sagar Lake

Gaib Sagar — sometimes spelled Gap Sagar — is the artificial lake at the heart of Dungarpur, built in the 13th century and surrounded ever since by temples and ghats. The Udai Bilas Palace looks across it from the east; the small white Vijay Rajeshwar and Shrinathji temples sit at its edge.

Early morning is the best time to walk around the lake: priests bathe at the ghats, women fill brass pots, and the light catches the temple spires on the far side. It is short enough to circle on foot in under an hour.
