The 290 sq km sanctuary covers most of the plateau and supports sloth bears, leopards, sambar deer, jungle cats, and an unusual population of grey langurs. The forest is mixed deciduous with a higher proportion of evergreens than the surrounding plains — a reminder of how different the microclimate up here is. The main visitor zone is at Trevor's Tank, a small reservoir 5 km from the town where sloth bears come to drink in the cooler months. Hire a local guide; the wildlife is shy and sightings depend on knowing where to look.
