The best months are October to March, when daytime temperatures are pleasant and nights cool. April and May are warm but still markedly cooler than the surrounding plains — this is when most Indian tourists arrive and the town can be uncomfortably crowded. The southwest monsoon (mid-June to mid-September) brings heavy rain and frequent road closures, but the hillside is at its greenest. December and January can be cold enough to need a jacket; on rare occasions the temperature drops below freezing.
The week-long Summer Festival in May features folk dancing and music at Nakki Lake.
