Pushkar is most famous in October or November during the annual camel fair (Pushkar ka Mela), timed to the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartik. This is the best time to visit if you want to see the fair — but also the most crowded and expensive. Book accommodation months ahead.
October to February is the most comfortable time to visit. Temperatures are warm but not extreme, and the dry air makes for clear skies. December and January nights can be cold in the desert.
March to June heats up sharply. By May and June, daytime temperatures regularly exceed 40°C. Pushkar is quiet at this time and prices drop, but the heat makes sightseeing uncomfortable outside the very early morning.
July to September is the monsoon. Rainfall in the Pushkar area is less dramatic than in wetter parts of India, but the roads can flood and the heat remains intense between showers. The lake levels recover during the monsoon.
