Patanjali Yogpeeth

Patanjali Yogpeeth is a vast complex on the outskirts of Haridwar founded by Baba Ramdev, the yoga guru who turned yogic practice into a global movement. The campus covers over 100 acres and includes a large hospital, research facilities, an ayurvedic pharmacy, and a meditation hall that can seat thousands. It receives millions of visitors annually.

Whether or not you come for yoga, the complex offers an interesting window into contemporary Hindu entrepreneurship and the relationship between spirituality and commerce in modern India. Morning yoga sessions are open to visitors, and the ayurvedic products made on site are widely considered good value. The complex is about 5 kilometres from central Haridwar on the Haridwar–Roorkee road.

A story
Patanjali Yogpeeth is named after the sage Patanjali, who codified the practice of yoga in the Yoga Sutras around the 2nd century BCE. The campus has become one of the most visited sites near Haridwar — a sign of how dramatically the global yoga revival has transformed the economy of this region.
