Dayalbagh Soami Bagh

Dayalbagh, 5 km north of central Agra, is the headquarters of the Radhasoami Satsang Beas religious community. The main sight is the Samadh of Swamiji Maharaj, a white marble memorial in progress for over a century, with intricate carving and parchin kari inlay still being added by hereditary craftsmen.

The complex includes the Dayalbagh Educational Institute and a model planned community. Visitors are welcome at the Samadh and the surrounding gardens; modest dress is expected. The work in progress — the same techniques that built the Taj, still being practiced — is unusual to see anywhere in India.

A story
Construction on the white marble Samadh — the memorial to the Radhasoami sect's founder Swamiji Maharaj — began in 1904 and has continued without interruption for more than 120 years. The building is still unfinished. Devotees consider that this is the point: the work itself is a form of devotion.
