Agra's food is mostly north Indian Mughlai with a few local specialities — bedai (puffed deep-fried bread served with potato curry) for breakfast, petha (a translucent ash-gourd sweet that the city makes by the tonne and exports across India), and crisp savoury namkeens sold in shops around Hari Parbat.
The Tajganj and Fatehabad Road districts have the densest concentration of tourist-friendly restaurants. Sadar Bazaar, in the cantonment area, has more local options and a livelier evening crowd. As anywhere in India, ask for places by reputation, eat what you can see being cooked, and stick to bottled water.
