A budget-traveller institution since 1978, Joney's Place is a tiny rooftop on a narrow lane just south of the Taj. The menu is the standard backpacker mix — banana lassi, vegetable curry, paneer butter masala, pancakes — but the rooftop view of the Taj Mahal is genuinely impressive and the prices stay backpacker-friendly.
Service is unhurried. Come early evening for chai, or after a sunrise visit for breakfast. Cash only.
