Allahabad Museum

The Allahabad Museum, housed in a building within Chandra Shekhar Azad Park, holds one of the better collections of ancient Indian art outside Delhi and Kolkata. The collection covers archaeological finds from the Maurya, Gupta, and medieval periods, with terracotta figurines, stone sculptures, and coins spanning two millennia. There is also a collection of modern Indian art and a gallery devoted to the freedom movement and the Nehru family's role in it.

The museum's most prized possessions include Kushana-period sculpture from nearby archaeological sites and a fine collection of Gupta terracottas. It is not a world-class museum by any stretch, but for anyone with an interest in the archaeology and history of the Gangetic plain, it is genuinely rewarding. Open Tuesday to Sunday; closed Monday and national holidays.
