The Civil Lines neighbourhood, north of the railway station, has a concentration of restaurants and fast-food outlets that cater to a middle-class local clientele. You will find north Indian curries, South Indian breakfasts (idli, dosa, vada), and Chinese-influenced dishes alongside the usual quick-service chains.
For a sit-down meal away from the railway area dhabas, Civil Lines is the most practical option. Standards are generally higher here and the dining rooms are cleaner, though prices remain low by any external standard. It is also the best area to find a restaurant open before the morning rush or open after an evening train.
