Sweets near Gorakhnath Temple

The lanes around the Gorakhnath Temple are lined with sweet shops selling pedas — dense milk fudge discs flavoured with cardamom and saffron — that are considered among the finest in Uttar Pradesh. Pilgrims buy them as prasad (devotional offerings) and as gifts to take home, and the shops do brisk business at all hours the temple is open.

The pedas here are made fresh and are sold for very little; they are best eaten within a day or two. Also worth trying are the laddoos and barfis in the same shops, which tend to be of comparable quality. If you visit the temple, it is hard to leave without picking up at least a small packet.
