Chattar Manzil — the "Umbrella Palace" — is a 19th-century Nawabi palace on the Gomti, named for the gilded umbrella-shaped chattri that crowns its central dome. The building is a hybrid: classical European columns and pediments combined with Mughal-style chhatris and an underground basement (the tehkhana) that was kept naturally cool in summer by water channels from the river.
For most of the 20th century the palace housed the Central Drug Research Institute. It was restored and partly reopened to the public in the 2020s after long closure. The riverside walk past the building is the easiest way to see it; check current opening hours locally before planning a visit inside.
