Getting Around

Lucknow's transport is chaotic but functional. Auto-rickshaws are the most practical option for getting across the city — agree on the fare before you get in. Shared tempos (oversized auto-rickshaws seating six to ten people) run fixed routes at very low fares and are the workhorse of the local transport system.

Cycle rickshaws are still common, especially in the bazaar areas of Aminabad and Chowk where motorised traffic can barely move. They are slower and a bit more expensive than tempos, but a far more pleasant way to take in the old city.

The city bus network exists but is crowded and unreliable. For longer distances or airport transfers, app-based ride services (Ola, Uber) work well and are the most comfortable option.
