Husainabad Clock Tower

The Husainabad Clock Tower — known locally as the Ghanta Ghar — is a 67-metre Victorian Gothic clock tower built in 1881 by Nawab Nasir-ud-Din Haider as an Indian answer to Big Ben in London. The clock mechanism was imported from London and the tower is among the tallest of its kind in India. The hands are decorated with gilded sun-bursts and the pendulum, in working order until quite recently, was longer than most adults.

It stands on the same long axial avenue as the Chota Imambara, opposite the Hussainabad Picture Gallery, and is best photographed from the small reservoir at the foot. The tower itself is not open to the public, but the surrounding gardens are a popular evening spot for locals.
